The sounds of

Saigon Spirit

From the heart of Saigon to the banks of the Mekong, this spirit traces a composer’s legacy through the flavours of his homeland - a story distilled from rice, spice, citrus, and song.

THe Story

Premiering at DOC NYC Festival, Y Vân: The Lost Sounds of Saigon tells the story of Y Vân, a legendary Vietnamese composer, and his granddaughter Khoa, as she journeys to uncover and preserve his lost music.

We captured the essence of Old Saigon and the Mekong Delta in a spirit that blends warmth, spice, and brightness. Toasted rice forms the foundation as a nod to the '“rice bowl of Vietnam”, enriched with star anise, cloves, coriander, and Saigon cinnamon, while fresh herbs and citrus - perilla, Thai basil, lemongrass, lime, and pomelo - bring vibrancy and lift.

Crafted with a dual-distillation process (pot-distilled spices and rice, vacuum-distilled fresh herbs and citrus) the result is a complex, layered spirit: slightly cloudy, citrusy and herbaceous on the nose, with a warming, nutty, subtly sweet finish.

A taste of Saigon, and a tribute to Y Vân’s legacy - bottled to tell his story through flavour.

THe Spirit

Distilled to 37.5% - this collaboration is a punchy citrus and herbaceous botanical spirit with a slighly clouded appearance thanks to the underlying note of bột thính gạo - a nod to the rice bowl of Vietnam.

    • Pomelo (bưởi)

    • Lemongrass (sả)

    • Bird's Eye Chilis (ớt chim ỉa)

    • Thai Basil (húng quế)

    • Vietnamese Coriander (rau răm)

    • Perilla leaf (tía tô)

    • Saigon Cinnamon (quế trà my)

    • Star Anise (đại hồi)

    • Cloves (đinh hương)

    • Grilled Rice Powder (bột thính gạo)

  • To preserve both warmth and freshness, we created a dual-distilled blend:

    • A pot-distilled base of toasted rice and spice, bringing depth and character.

    • A vacuum cold distillation of herbs and citrus, capturing their delicate aromatics.

The result is a spirit as layered and expressive as the story that inspired it - slightly cloudy from toasted rice, vibrant on the nose with citrus and herbs, and rounded on the palate by spice and a soft, nutty sweetness.

  • As it’s a botanical spirit - you can use it in a very similar way to a gin or a vodka. If you want a simple mixed drink - club soda, tonic, or ginger beer garnished with a lime is an excellent simple serve.
